“Life is better at the Beach”
Throughout my wanderlust travels – there have been a few beaches upon which I have left footprints in the sand and in turn I have been left with amazing imprints on my Soul.
I often say that the ocean and the sea deeply resonate with me as a soothing and energizing influence.
I wanted to share just some of my most favourite beaches from amazing destinations throughout the world:
Aloha! Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii
Such a stunning destination! This iconic beach is a great destination for all beach and sun lovers’ and is a picture perfect postcard with cerulean waters complemented by tall, noble palm trees gently swaying in the breeze.
It is a place where you can stroll along the boardwalk and have a photo taken by the bronze statue of the legendary Surfing King “Duke Kahanamoku”.
My most unforgettable and hilarious memory was trying to stay afloat on my big, bright pink “jandal” (flip flop) floaty on “Kuhio” beach – in contrast to all the cool surfie chicks heading out with their surfboards to catch a wave! (definitely a laugh out loud moment).
Life’s a beach moment: Watching a glorious pink and orange Hawaiian sunset
My Beach haven: The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel
Marhaba! Republic of the Maldives
Sparkling aqua waters and powdery white sands, will warmly greet you as you travel to the Island of Giraavaru, located in the Indian Ocean (North Male Atoll).
It is an ideal, romantic, couple’s only holiday destination and where I spent my honeymoon.
The island is epitomized by pure luxury – from a health and wellness retreat to the overwater bungalows, the restaurants, cocktails, mock tails and relaxing water activities.
Life’s a beach moment: Swimming in the Indian Ocean
My Beach haven: The Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa
Sawatdee! Maya Bay, Phi Phi Island, Phuket, Thailand
This tropical island is famous when Hollywood came to town and made the movie “The Beach” starring current Oscar winner Leonardo Dicaprio.
I was fortunate to take a tour to the island as part of my Thai holiday experience.
It is not hard to see why location scouts chose this amazing haven – the perfect escape!
As you wade out into the stunning, cool waters it is so serene and as you look up and around, you are surrounded by impressive and lush covered mountain giants that silently guard this island jewel.
Life’s a beach moment: Happy family holiday snaps
My Beach haven: The Aquamarine Resort & Villa
Yassas! Mykonos (Old Port) Greek Islands
Mykonos had the most beautiful, aqua clear seawaters that I have ever seen in my life! You could see right down to the tawny and grey coloured rocks that lay beneath these stunning waters.
What a brilliant introduction to the Mediterranean and the gorgeous Greek Islands.
I was lucky enough to experience two beaches close to the “Old Port” township – one nearer to the restaurants and café’s with its very finely crushed pebbled sand; the other at the southern end of town where people would flock to relax and bask in the glorious Greek sun.
Life’s a beach moment: Dipping my toes in the dazzling waters of the Aegean Sea
My Beach haven: The Belvedere Hotel
G’day Mate! Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays, Australia
Whitehaven Beach is a secluded, idyllic 7 km stretch of pristine beach along Whitsunday Island. The beach offers up mesmerizing turquoise waters and fine granules of white sand that squeak as you leave footprints in the sand.
I loved my holiday to the Whitsundays as a dream come true.
The island is only accessible to tourists’ by boat from Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island. Once you get there it’s a pleasant and leisurely way to spend a balmy afternoon in the sun, sand and surf. Just keep an eye out for jellyfish.
Life’s a beach moment: Wearing a snug “pink” wetsuit for a dip in the sea
My Beach haven: Airlie Beach Hotel
Kia ora! Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand
It is the place I call home – my Turangawaewae (a place where I feel connected and empowered) where my Tipuna (ancestors) journeyed and lived.
It is a place of sanctuary and rejuvenation whenever I return home to New Zealand. This is a popular tourist region and is a mere 3-hour drive north of Auckland City.
The beaches on both sides of the township are picturesque – surrounded by plenty of green native trees and blue waters with lots of small islands that dot the horizon. Many water sports and scenic activities are readily available here too.
Life’s a beach moment: I kicked my shoes off and in a carefree moment, ran down to the beach, sunk my feet into the soft sand, closed my eyes and simply reconnected with the land.
My Beach haven: The Anchorage Hotel
